Daphne~Dusk Fairy

Sold, California

Here she finally is. I decided to give her the name Daphne, suggested by my daughter. Looking it up: It is of Greek origin, and the meaning of Daphne is "laurel tree". Mythology: virtuous Daphne was a nymph who was transformed into a laurel tree to protect her from Apollo. The name was used under the Roman Empire, but disappeared until the 18th century.

So I didn't follow the myth, but this is a dark fairy. Not evil dark, but dark because she comes out only at dusk and dreams the night away, sitting high in a tree, lost in her thoughts.

I thought it very gracious of her to sit for me while the sun was still shining.

Daphne is fully sculpted over a wire armature from Fimo Puppen using no molds, and no molds have been taken from her. She is truly one of a kind.
Her dark hair is fine Tibetan wool, hand dyed by me.
Her eyes were made separately and inserted during sculpting. Eyelashes of Tibetan wool are hand applied.
She was painted using Genesis heat set paints and fine acrylics.
Her clothing was fashioned from lace, trim, fiber and beads. Her beautiful night wings are made from wire and feathers.
